The Hallstatt Museum is a museum in Hallstatt in the district of Gmunden in Upper Austria . Using archaeological finds, it presents the culture through a journey through 7000 years of Hallstatt as well as finds from the world's oldest salt mine.

history

The museum was founded in 1844 as the second Upper Austrian museum after the Landesmuseum and before the Lauriacum Museum . The building at Seestrasse 56 used to be a rectory and is a listed building .

Museum focus

This museum contains historical items from Hallstatt, both exhibits from excavations in the salt mine and spectacular finds from the burial ground in the Hallstatt high valley.
