Drosera rechingeri is a carnivorous plant of the genus sundew ( Drosera ). It belongs to the group of so-called dwarf sundews and is native to southwestern Australia.

description

Drosera rechingeri is a perennial herbaceous plant . This forms a compact, rosette-shaped bud made of leaves with a diameter of about 1.5 cm. The stem axis is 1 cm long and only covered with the withered leaves of the preseason.

The bud of the stipules is broadly ovate , smooth, 5 mm long and 5 mm in diameter at the base. The stipules themselves are 4.5 mm long, 3 mm wide, 1 mm wide at the base and three-lobed. The middle lobe is divided into 3 segments. Each segment is fringed at the top. The side lobes are slightly shorter than the central lobes. The outer edges are sawn in the upper half . The tip and the inner edges are divided into a few fringes near the tip. The lowest lobe is the same length as the central lobe.

The leaf blades are broadly elliptical , deeply indented, 1.5 mm long and 1.2 mm wide. The longer tentacle glands are on the edge, the shorter ones on the inside. They are hairless on the underside. The leaf stalks are narrowly lanceolate, up to 5 mm long, 1 mm at the base and taper to 0.3 mm at the leaf blade. They are elongated with a wide, semicircular rib on the underside and top along the petioles . The edges and the top are glandular, the underside hairless.

Flowering time is October. The one or two flower stems are 4 cm long and completely covered with tiny glands. The glands become denser towards the tip. The inflorescence is a coil of 12 or more flowers on approximately 3 mm long pedicels. The egg-shaped sepals are 2 mm long and 1.2 to 1.5 mm wide. The margins are whole , the tips sawed irregularly . The entire surface is covered with some glands. The petals are light lemon yellow, white at the base, obovate , 5 mm long and 3.5 mm wide. The tips are slightly notched.

The five stamens are 1.5 mm long. The stamens are white, the anthers pale yellow and the pollen yellow. The golden-green ovary is top-shaped, 0.6 mm long and 1 mm in diameter. The 3 white, almost horizontally elongated styluses are 3 to 4.5 mm long, 0.15 mm in diameter and taper to a point at the tip. The scars are white and simply shaped.

The formation of brood scales is typical of dwarf sundews. The broad, egg-shaped, 0.7 mm thick brood scales are formed in large numbers from late November to early December and are approx. 1 mm long and 0.8 mm wide.

Distribution of Drosera rechingeri in Australia

Distribution, habitat and status

Drosera rechingeri occurs only on a small area in the extreme southwest of Australia. The plant thrives there on light yellow sand under the protection of Banksia menziesii forests and in similar soils on low open heathland

Systematics

Drosera rechingeri was named after the Austrian botanist Karl Heinz Rechinger .
