Catholic educational organization

Katholisches Bildungswerk (KBW) describes an organizational unit of adult education sponsored by the church. An educational institution is located at the level of a city, a district or a region ( KBW in district XY or KBW in city XY ) and works predominantly on a decentralized basis. Its educational offers take place in cooperation with parishes, associations and local institutions.

In contrast to this, other adult education institutions such as family education centers , academies and educational establishments work mostly in a stationary manner in their own premises.

The terminology and structure of adult education in the German dioceses are not uniform. In some dioceses the decentralized institutions are called Katholisches Bildungswerk , in other dioceses names such as regional office or the like are used. common. The educational institutions are mostly branches of larger church educational institutions with state recognition and funding. They have full-time pedagogical staff who work at the district or regional level. In some federal states, this is a prerequisite for state funding. There are also honorary board members or advisory boards at local or regional level.

In Austria, the Catholic educational institutions are mainly based on the cooperation of volunteers.
