Martin Preineder (born May 1, 1962 in Wiener Neustadt ) is an Austrian farmer and politician ( ÖVP ).

education and profession

Martin Preineder attended elementary and secondary school in Lanzenkirchen from 1968 to 1976 and then the agricultural college in Gumpoldskirchen . He passed the agricultural skilled worker and master craftsman examination and has been an independent farmer since 1986. He has been managing his 38 hectare farm since 1996 according to the guidelines of organic farming . Preineder has been a skilled horse worker since 2009.

Political functions

Martin Preineder was chairman of the Lower Austrian rural youth from 1986 to 1989 and chairman of the Austrian rural youth from 1988 to 1990. From 1991 to 1993 he was chairman of the Austrian Young Farmers' Union. Since 1990 he has been a member of the Lower Austrian Farmers Association. From 1993 to 2007 he was a councilor in his home town of Lanzenkirchen and chairman of the control committee. From 2002 to 2007 he was chairman of the energy committee of the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture, then from 2007 to 2009 chairman of the committee for organic agriculture of the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture.

On December 17, 2002 he was sworn in as a Federal Councilor . From 2003 to 2006 he was a member of the Austrian National Council . He represented the districts of Wiener Neustadt and Neunkirchen . His main areas of activity were agriculture and forestry, renewable energy and the future of rural areas. In parliament he was active in the following committees: science and research, building committee, transport committee.

From 2004 to 2015 he was chairman of the ÖVP district party Wr. Neustadt Land, which includes 22 communities around Wiener Neustadt. He is chairman of the platform "Nature for Life", which advocates the interests of 1.2 million people who live from the cultivation of rural areas. From September 13th, 2005 to 2012 he was chairman of the rural training institute (LFI) Niederösterreich, the education and consulting company of the Chamber of Agriculture for rural areas. Since 2003 he has headed the regional initiative "The Bucklige Welt tastes so good".

Since 2006 he has been a member of the Federal Council again. In the second half of 2010 he was President of the Federal Council.
