Manfred Gruber (politician)

Manfred Gruber (born May 1, 1949 in Bad Gastein , St. Johann im Pongau district , Salzburg ) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ).

biography

After attending elementary school and secondary school in Bad Gastein, Gruber attended vocational school between 1963 and 1967 and began working as an electrical engineer at the Post and Telegraph Administration (ÖPT), today's Telekom Austria , and was there after another high school graduation between 1970 and 1975 to 2009 worked as a technical officer.

He also began a political career in the SPÖ and was initially a member of Bad Gastein's municipal council from 1981 to 1989 . In 1984 he was elected a member of the Salzburg state parliament and was a member of it for two legislative periods until 1994. After he was Vice Mayor of Bad Gastein from 1989 to 1994, he became mayor in 1994 and held this office until 2004.

On March 1, 2001, he was elected a member of the Austrian Federal Council and was a member of the Austrian Federal Council until January 31, 2012 as a representative of the SPÖ for the state of Salzburg. Between 2004 and 2009 he was again Vice Mayor of Bad Gastein.

In addition, he was President of the Austrian Federal Council from January 1 to June 30, 2007 .

Manfred Gruber has also received several awards, including the Great Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria and the Great Gold Medal of Honor with the Star for Services to the Republic of Austria .
