Wien Energie power grid supply area

The Wien Energie GmbH electricity network was a distribution company and part of Wiener Stadtwerke Holding AG , which is 100% of the city of Vienna belongs. At the end of July 2013, the company was merged with Wien Energie Gasnetz to form the newly founded company Wiener Netze .

General

Wien Energie Stromnetz operated the power grid for the power supply of the City of Vienna, as well as parts of Lower Austria and Burgenland . In Lower Austria, these were mainly the communities in the Mödling district and parts of the Baden district . The reason for this was the incorporation of numerous communities into Greater Vienna from 1938 to 1954. One exception is the southern part of Maria Enzersdorf , where the headquarters of EVN is located, which is therefore supplied by the Lower Austrians. Further supply areas were in the region around Wildalpen and Ybbstal in western Lower Austria, where the headwaters of Vienna's second high spring water pipeline are located. The pressure of the water flowing to Vienna is reduced in the Gaming water pipeline power plant operated by Wien Energie and, among other things, the surrounding area is supplied with electricity.

The establishment and start of operations took place on October 1, 2005.

Distribution network

380 kV network in Vienna

As of 2012, the line network of Wien Energie Stromnetz comprised a total of 43 substations in the high-voltage network . The distribution network consisting of a 400 kV level as the 400 kV north feed Vienna and separated between the substation Vienna Southeast , substation South (Wien) , substation Kendlerstraße and the substation simmering a 400 kV underground cable connection. There is an extensive underground cable-based distribution network with 110 kV to the subordinate substations. The 220 kV level is not used in Vienna.

In the medium voltage area, there is a fine-meshed distribution network with 20 kV or 10 kV to the 10,500 transformer stations as of mid-2012 , which feed the local low-voltage networks. The lower medium voltage of 10 kV is mainly used in the area of older and shorter underground cable systems in densely built-up urban areas, as these cable systems do not have the appropriate insulation strength.

The substation with the oldest 110 kV switchgear is the Vienna North substation , which was built in 1957.

Wien Energie Stromnetz operated gas-insulated switchgear with SF 6 shielding gas in some substations . The largest SF 6 switchgear are located in the Simmering and Kendlerstrasse substations, while smaller SF 6 systems include the Schwechat substation, which was built in 2007 near Vienna Airport .
