The substation Wien-Südost is the largest substation in Vienna and is located on Johannesberg ( 201  m ) in Unterlaa in the Vienna district of Favoriten directly on the Vienna outer ring expressway (S1) . It is operated by Austrian Power Grid AG (APG). The central control center of the Austrian APG control area , which includes all federal states except Vorarlberg, is located on the site . The substation is a junction in the (planned) Austrian 380 kV high voltage ring and serves to supply the federal capital Vienna with electrical energy to parts ofLower Austria and Northern Burgenland .

Network operation

The task of the main control center operated by APG is the safe operation of the transmission network in the control area. This includes forecasts for the loads on lines, transformers and other equipment. In the event of identifiable bottlenecks or unforeseen malfunctions, the main control center will plan and initiate the necessary countermeasures. To permanently compensate for power generation and consumption will control power retrieved. The capacities for cross-border electricity trading are calculated and coordinated with the neighboring transmission system operators. Furthermore, 57 substations are monitored and remotely controlled from the main control center.

Technical specifications

The substation consists of outdoor switchgear for 380  kV , 220 kV and 110 kV with a total of 13 busbars . Two grid coupling transformers with a total output of 1200  MVA are installed between the 380 kV and 220 kV levels , and three network coupling transformers with a total output of 600 MVA are installed between the 220 kV and 110 kV levels.

For static reactive power compensation are two air restrictors with a reactive power of 100 MVAr and three capacitor banks with a total of 220 MVAr available.

The GK Wien-Südost , operated between June 1993 and October 1996 , was an HVDC short coupling (GKK) that was used to link the Austrian and Hungarian electricity networks. Due to the synchronized connection of the power grids in the mid-1990s as part of the UCTE , this system was no longer required. The building of the former converter station is now used as a storage room and workshop.

The following high-voltage lines lead from and to the Vienna Southeast substation :

There are also three 110 kV underground cables to Wien Energie and the regional state energy supply companies EVN and BEWAG .

Others

Ziesel was detected in the green areas of the Vienna Southeast substation .

The second mast of the 380 kV line to Győr since the shutdown of the GKK can be illuminated at night. One of the harmonic filters of the former GK is preserved as a monument.
