A capacitor battery is created by connecting several capacitors together ( in series and / or in parallel ) , whereby a higher operating voltage is achieved with a smaller total capacitance, or a higher capacitance with parallel connection. There can also be a combination of series and parallel connection.

Capacitor batteries made up of power capacitors for high voltage , as shown in the figure opposite, are used in AC voltage networks to supply electrical energy to control reactive power .

In applications with direct voltage , the energy stored in capacitor batteries can be released much faster than from chemical accumulators , because a capacitor stores the energy in an electrical field and does not have to obtain it from chemical processes.
