Mario Schlembach (2017)

Mario Schlembach (born November 21, 1985 in Hainburg an der Donau ) is an Austrian writer, playwright and freelance artist.

Life

Schlembach grew up next to the Sommerein camp cemetery and lived as a farmer's son on an emigrant farm .

He attended the Sommerein elementary school, the Mannersdorf secondary school and the Mödling Higher Education Institute for Fashion and Clothing Technology . After traveling around the world and completing military service, he studied theater, film and media studies as well as philosophy and comparative literature at the University of Vienna .

This was followed by his first reading appearances (including in the context of the Junge Burg des Burgtheater and poetry slams ), speaking pieces and his first play Der Grotengräber des Stalag XVII A , which dealt with the buried camp history of his homeland. He staged the play at the location of the actual events. After some multimedia experiments, which u. a. culminated in a video installation Into The Landscape (Poetry) for the exhibition “AusBLICKE” in Klosterneuburg Abbey , he concentrated on his dissertation on Thomas Bernhard , which was the starting point for his first novel, Poet's Wife . He meticulously documented the creation of the raw manuscript in daily video recordings and created a film about the genesis of the text as a satirical allusion to the media poet productions.

His second novel, Nebel , is the result of his close association with death. Since childhood he had accompanied his father - von Sommerein's gravedigger - in his work and worked as a funeral helper in Vienna's cemeteries during his studies. For fog he received u. a. the Hans Weigel literary scholarship, the 20th Irseer Pegasus author's award and a shortlist for the Alpha 2018 literary award .
