Wortspiele is the name of a three-day international festival for young literature that takes place every year, initially in Munich and then in Vienna .

Organizer Johan de Blank opens WORTSPIELE together with his wife Jana de Blank

The initiator of the festival is the Dutch literary agent Johan de Blank , who first organized the word games in May 2001 in Munich . His concept brings new publications by young authors to the Muffatwerk stage for three evenings (two evenings in Vienna at the Porgy & Bess jazz club ). The writers read from their work for about 20 minutes, and the predominantly young audience chooses a winner of the day at the end of the event. On the third evening of the Münchner Wortspiele, the Bayern 2 Wortspiele Prize awarded by a jury will be awarded, endowed with 2,000 euros and with the option of a reading on the radio (Bayern 2, The Open Book ). The award is also accompanied by a one-month residency at the Goethe-Institut Beijing . In the early days, the evenings were led by writers, now presenters of Bayerischer Rundfunk . The Munich author Nikolai Vogel accompanies the readings with artistic word projections. The word games are supported by the Munich Culture Department , media partners are the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation , the Goethe-Institut and the literary magazine Volltext .
