The Kalte Gang is a groundwater river in the industrial district in Lower Austria, south of Vienna .
course
It feeds on many groundwater sources in the Mitterndorfer Senke area , which are located in the Ebreichsdorf municipality right next to the Piesting . For this reason, the middle and upper reaches of the Piesting have been incorrectly referred to as the cold corridor for centuries until today. Measurement results show, however, that the Cold Gang is an independent body of water that is characterized by more even water temperatures (hence the name) and a higher magnesium sulphate content than the Piesting.
The Cold walk through flowing Velm (here was 1919, the world's first Kaplan turbine put into operation), Himberg , Pellendorf and Zwölfaxing and finally ends in Schwechat in the river Schwechat .
An approximately 1 km long section near Pellendorf was renovated at the beginning of 2019 in order to prevent the increasingly frequent leaks into the adjacent fields. In the course of this renovation, the entire bank vegetation and all obstructions were removed on both sides and the streambed was deepened somewhat. Nevertheless, beavers , muskrats , nutria and ducks continue to settle in this area .
