Stefan Steinle

Stefan Steinle (born June 14, 1921 in Mönchhof , Burgenland ; † August 25, 2012 in Rankweil , Vorarlberg ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

After graduating from compulsory school, Stefan Steinle worked as a worker from 1935 to 1941, initially with the ÖBB and finally with the Reichsbahn . In 1945 he found work as a textile worker at the sporting goods manufacturer and textile company Eybl . Steinle was a member of the company's works council from 1947 to 1967 . From 1967 he became involved in the union of textile, clothing and leather workers, of which he was elected chairman in 1973.

His political career began in 1954 when he was elected to the council of the Lower Austrian municipality of Ebergassing . Steinle was one of the founding fathers of the still young community, which only split off from Vienna in September 1954 .

After six years as a councilor, Steinle was elected vice mayor in 1960, and he was elected mayor in 1965. Stefan Steinle then headed Ebergassing for 21 years, until 1986. In October 1973 he was also sworn in as a member of the Federal Council. He was a member of the Austrian provincial chamber until November 1987.

Within his party, Steinle was part of the party executive of the SPÖ Lower Austria .
