Tattendorf is a municipality with 1,474 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Baden district in Lower Austria .

geography

Tattendorf is located in the industrial district in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 14.35 square kilometers. 3.15 percent of the area is forested. There are no other cadastral communities .

history

In ancient times the area was part of the province of Pannonia . An Adaloldus de Tatindorf is mentioned for the first time in 1114 . In 1529 ( First Siege of the Turks ) and 1683 ( Second Siege of the Turks ) the place was burned down in the Turkish Wars, in 1619 the church and place were destroyed by the Hungarian rebels under Gábor Bethlen . The neighboring Hadwartesdorf fell desolate.

In the 19th century, the export-oriented kk priv. Cotton yarn spinning mill was located in Tattendorf , which first belonged to Theodor Dumba (1818–1880) and then to his cousin Nikolaus Dumba and at that time employed around 180 people. Nikolaus Dumba expanded the spinning mill into a highly profitable company and was also socially involved in Tattendorf.

Viticulture has been practiced since 1256, and it thrives here particularly well. Today mostly red grape varieties are grown.

Religions

In 1672 there was a pilgrimage to an image of Mary near an oak tree, which was banned as early as 1673. In 1688 the oak was felled and dug up. The Lady Chapel was rebuilt in 1903.

With a total of 19 seats, the municipal council has the following mandate distribution: SP Tattendorf (SPT) 9, Independent List Tattendorf (UHL) 6, Tattendorfer People's Party (ÖVP) 4.

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2001 there were 66 non-agricultural workplaces; according to the 1999 survey, there were 41 agricultural and forestry holdings. According to the 2001 census, 631 people were gainfully employed, making the 2001 employment rate 53.73 percent.
