Ignaz Paur (born July 22, 1778 in Tattendorf , Lower Austria ; † December 6, 1842 in Lichtenwörth , Lower Austria) was an Austrian miller and inventor.

Life

Ignaz Paur came to the mill of his father Adam Paur (1748–1795) and his wife Josefa Paur nee. Marksteiner (1755–1816) in Tattendorf was the first of seven children to be born. He learned the trade of miller from his father and when he died in 1795 from his mother's second husband, Johann Frank.

In 1802 he married Katharina Schmid (1778–1821), and the marriage had six children. From 1803 to 1806 Paur was an existing miller, first at the Hofmannmühle in Vöslau , then at the Kunstmühle Dornau until 1810 and then in Leobersdorf . After the death of his wife, Paur married Maria Anna Haider (* 1798), daughter of a hammer smith from Altenmarkt im Ysperthale , in 1821. This marriage had five children.

Around 1826 Paur came into possession of the Lichtenwörth mill. After his death, the mill in Lichtenwörth became the property of Martin Haider and when he died in 1846, his heirs, who sold the mill to Karl Strasser. Today the mill is called R. u. H. Herzig, rolling mills vorm. Richard Strasser.

invention

In 1811, Paur improved the grinding products with the invention of his "double semolina cleaning machine" and introduced the so-called cleanser. The semolina was blown through a crack by means of a stream of air and freed from the adhering bran . The laborious sieving of semolina was replaced by the new grinding process invented by Paur , called "Wiener Hochmüllerei", and the previously common grinding method (flat milling) was thus obsolete. The “Wiener Hochmüllererei” made it possible to grind hard wheat varieties from the Banat and to produce very fine semolina. The “Viennese high milling” invented by Paur is still used worldwide today.
