Art mill
As Kunstmühle were from the 19th century mills referred, which had a (for that time) is particularly high technical standard. The word component “art” does not refer to art in the sense of creating a work of art , but to engineering , i.e. technology.
The decisive factor for the award as an art mill was often that the old grinding aisles with millstones were replaced by modern roller mills . This was often accompanied by the replacement of the old water wheels with modern turbines or the use of steam engines and electric motors for propulsion.
The handicraft businesses, which in some cases go back to the Middle Ages , became small industrial companies.
