About this picture
Obereisenheim from the east

Eisenheim is a market in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg and a member of the Estenfeld administrative community . The market right actually only lies with the place Obereisenheim, which therefore - in contrast to Untereisenheim - has a market place. When the two localities were amalgamated to form one municipality of "Eisenheim", the term "market" was also extended to both places.

geography

The municipality is located in the Würzburg region and directly on the Main .

In terms of its natural surroundings, the municipality is located in the area of the Volkacher Mainschleife , which is counted as a sub-unit of the Middle Main Valley of the Mainfränkische Platten .

Community structure

There are four districts:

There are the districts Obereisenheim and Untereisenheim.

history

Until the church is planted

So far, it was assumed that Eisenheim was first mentioned in 788 as "Isanesheim" in a deed of donation to the Fulda monastery . The 1200th anniversary celebration in 1988 also referred to this.

According to more recent evaluations of a document from the year 772, this date is now used as the first mention, since it is assumed that with "Isinleiba" or "Isleiba", as it is mentioned in the document book of the Fulda monastery , the former Eisenheim is meant .

Obereisenheim was part of the county of Castell-Rüdenhausen, which was mediatized by Bavaria in 1806. In 1810 Bavaria left the area to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg in the course of border purifications. In 1814 it finally fell to Bavaria. In 1818 the political municipality was established.

Religions

As a member of the Protestant county of Castell-Rüdenhausen, Obereisenheim is still predominantly Protestant today. There is an evangelical pastor and an evangelical parish church.

Untereisenheim belonged to the diocese of Würzburg. The coat of arms of Prince-Bishop Julius Echter can still be found there today. Because it belongs to the Catholic diocese of Würzburg, Untereisenheim is still predominantly Catholic today.

Community merger

The Obereisenheim market and the Untereisenheim community belonged to the Gerolzhofen district before they came to the Würzburg district on July 1, 1972 as a result of the district reform in Bavaria . On May 1, 1978, both communities were merged to form the new Eisenheim market.
