About this picture

Geroldshausen is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg .

geography

Geroldshausen is in the Würzburg planning region .

Community structure

Geroldshausen has two districts (the type of settlement in brackets):

There are the districts Geroldshausen and Moos. A road with a parallel cycle path connects the two districts, as does the Klingenbach and Riedbach, which flow with the Moosbach into the Wittigbach to the state border.

history

Until the church is planted

Archaeological finds prove the settlement of the community area since the Neolithic . The first documentary mention is in Hohenlohe documents from the year 1252. Geroldshausen was part of the manor of the barons Wolffskeel von Reichenberg, which belonged to the Franconian knight circle . It was mediated by the Grand Duchy of Würzburg and with this fell to Bavaria in 1814. In 1818 the political municipality was established.

Some of the families who have lived in the village for centuries come from what is now the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim and there, above all, from the two places Lipprichhausen and Gülchsheim in today's Hemmersheim community .

The place Moos was first mentioned in 1133 when Bishop Emmerich von Würzburg bequeathed a court and the whole tithe to the monastery of Oberzell here. Relations with the Premonstratensian monastery shaped the historical development of Moos for almost 700 years. In 1521 there were eight farms. Documents prove that a church was built in Moos for the first time in 1613. The Nikolauskirche, equipped with Rococo altars, was consecrated in 1780. With the secularization in 1803, the rule of the Oberzell monastery ended, the property came into private ownership.

Religions

Until the Reformation, Geroldshausen belonged to the Catholic parish of Kirchheim. In the 16th century, the Barons von Wolffskeel, who had become Protestant, appointed a Protestant pastor in Uengershausen. The parish of Geroldshausen has since belonged to the "Evangelical Lutheran Parish Uengershausen" and with it to the Würzburg deanery. The parish of Geroldshausen today also includes the villages of Kirchheim, Kleinrinderfeld, Moos and Gaubüttelbrunn. The Protestant church in Geroldshausen was built in 1590 and enlarged in 1732. Until it was dissolved during the Nazi era, there was also a Jewish community in Geroldshausen. In the first half of the 19th century, about 20% of the population belonged to it (in 1814 50 Jewish inhabitants out of a total of 233). A synagogue built in the first half of the 19th century was rebuilt after 1945 into a residential building that still exists today (in the former "Judenhof", today Hauptstrasse 12). There has been a Catholic church on the outskirts of Geroldshausen since 1961. The Catholic parish belongs to the parish community “St. Petrus - the rock ”based in Kirchheim. Other places in this parish community are Kleinrinderfeld, Moos and Gaubüttelbrunn. The parish community was founded in December 2009.
