history

Neubrunn

Until the church is planted

Ludwig IV “the Bavarian”, Roman king and emperor, granted Neubrunn town charter in 1323 . This allowed the Teutonic Order “to turn the village of Neubrunn into a city with fortifications, a weekly market and rights, as the city of Wertheim has.” Remains of the city rights are parts of the city wall, some of which are still preserved at the cemetery. A hospital founded in 1315 was taken over by the Teutonic Order, which was relocated to Stadtprozelten in 1319 as a beneficiary institution.

The former office of Neubrunn of the Hochstift Würzburg, which belonged to the Franconian Empire , was left to Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg after secularization in 1803 in favor of Bavaria in 1805, and with this in 1814 it finally fell to Bavaria. In 1818 the political municipality was established.

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Böttigheim was incorporated.
