Emil Kemmer

Emil Kemmer (born March 31, 1914 in Neubrunn near Würzburg, † November 26, 1965 in Bamberg ) was a German politician of the CSU .

Life and work

After attending primary school, Kemmer completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith in Würzburg . From 1936 to 1938 he was a Wehrmacht soldier. With the outbreak of war in 1939 he was drafted again; During the recovery period after an injury, he passed the Abitur at the Humanist Gymnasium in Weimar . He was then called up for military service again and remained a soldier until the end of the war.

After his release from prisoner-of-war, Kemmer was diocesan director of the Catholic Youth in Bamberg from 1945 to 1949 , during which time he studied for three semesters at the pedagogical-theological college there without obtaining a degree.

Political party

Kemmer was a founding member of the Junge Union in Bamberg.

He was a member of the German Bundestag from its first election in 1949 until October 7, 1964. He was always directly elected to parliament in the constituency of Bamberg . From June 19, 1952 to 1953 he was deputy chairman of the Bundestag committee for youth welfare, from 1953 to 1961 chairman of the Bundestag committee for family and youth issues. Kemmer was also a member of the Defense Committee from 1953 to 1961. In 1961 he was one of the founders of the study society for time problems and was its 1st chairman until 1965.

Public offices

From October 1964 until his death, Kemmer was district administrator of Bamberg .

Honors

The Emil-Kemmer-Haus in Oberviechtach / Upper Palatinate , one of 18 soldiers' leisure homes of the Catholic Working Group for Soldier Care , and Emil-Kemmer-Strasse in Hallstadt and Kemmerstrasse in Bamberg-Kramersfeld are named after him.

In 1954 he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit with a Star of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit on December 15, 1959.

In 1960 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Nicola Canali and invested on April 30, 1960 by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the Order.
