Günther Denzler

Günther Denzler (born February 26, 1948 in Bamberg ) is a German local politician ( CSU ) and was district council president of the district of Upper Franconia from 2003 to 2018. From 1996 to 2014 he was district administrator of the district of Bamberg .

Life and work

Günther Denzler grew up in Stappenbach near Burgebrach in the Bamberg district. After graduating from the Theresianum in Bamberg in 1968, he studied law at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and at the University of Regensburg and passed the two legal exams with distinction. After studying political science at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg , he received his doctorate “Magna cum laude” on the subject of the influence of alternative newspapers on local politics from the point of view of city press offices .

From 1975 Denzler worked as a lawyer for the government of Upper Franconia and from 1977 to 1982 for the Bamberg district office. From 1982 to 1996 he headed the personnel department of the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg and was responsible for press and public relations. In 1988 he was appointed Vice Chancellor of that university.

In 1996 and 2002, Denzler was elected district administrator of the Bamberg district with large majorities. The voters confirmed him again in 2008 as district administrator. Since October 2003 he has also held the office of district council president of Upper Franconia, to which he was re-elected in 2008 with all 17 votes of the district councils and in 2013 with 13 votes. From the large number of other functions, the chairmanship of the regional planning association Upper Franconia-West and the deputy council chairmanship of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region should be mentioned.

In 2014 Johann Kalb succeeded him as district administrator for the Bamberg district.

Denzler was married to Christine Denzler-Labisch (died February 19, 2009) and has two daughters.

Party political functions

Denzler has been a member of the CSU since 1976 and has held various party-political functions since then. From 1979 to 1985 he was JU district chairman in Bamberg-Land, from 1981 to 1996 CSU chairman in Litzendorf, from 1981 to 1997 deputy CSU district chairman and most recently from 1997 to 2009 CSU district chairman in Bamberg-Land.

Honorary positions

Denzler has several honorary functions. He is the state chairman of the Catholic male communities in Bavaria, chairman of the Kulturforum Bamberg Land e. V. and Vice President Prosport Oberfranken e. V. Denzler is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bayreuth Festival , a member of the board of directors of the University of Bamberg, a member of the Advisory Board of the Bavarian State Association for Homeland Care and the Board of Trustees of the Bamberg Symphony , the Richard Wagner Foundation and the Upper Franconian Foundation .
