history

prehistory

In addition to shards of vessels from the ceramic era , an ax from the Bronze Age was also found in Uettingen . The beginning of the settlement should be around 300–400. From 213 the area around Uettingen was considered to belong to the realm of the Alamanni or Suebi , which was assigned to the Gallic sphere of influence between 481 and 506. After all, from 511 it was part of the empire of Metz , which was referred to as Austrasia from 584 and independently administered as the eastern part of the Franconian Empire until 751 .

First official mentions

Uettingen was first mentioned in a document on January 20, 772, when a certain Alwalah gave his possessions, in the presence of King Charlemagne , from a total of 25 villages to the Fulda monastery. Uettingen itself, however, was owned by the Holzkirchen monastery and fell to Wertheim around 1165. At that time the area in which the place is located was called Waldsassengau .

The Ütinger article from the farmer Kleinhans

As a result of the rise of Protestantism and the beginning of humanism , the 12 articles of the peasantry in Swabia were written in February 1525 . In this German peasants war , a respected and wealthy farmer named Kleinhans (presumably “Kleins Hans” as a short form of “Johann Klein”) from Uettingen came to the fore. He managed to articulate the indignation of the rural population and wrote the so-called Ütinger articles . It reminded little of the 12 articles of the peasantry, as it was essentially a local concept and he had no qualms about trying to enforce his articles.

The articles were a reprimand to Count von Wertheim's demand that the monks of Holzkirchen be paid everything the Uettinger owed them in three days. Otherwise you would sell the citizens' property and use it to cover their debts. This was particularly tough because of a bad harvest year . Furthermore, the count had the free movement prohibited municipalities civil rights deprived the suburbs sold and horsemen to the mayor made.

Kleinhans built his agitational activities in the area on his articles, not sparing with lies and threats. In Uettingen it was easy for him to be entrusted with the management of the community. After the mayor, appointed by Count von Wertheim, stood loyal to his master, he was declared deposed and Kleinhans had himself made mayor.

The first action was aimed at the Holzkirchen monastery, especially its wine cellar . As he marched out, he shouted "sy haben follen kasten". The Uettinger did not treat the property with care, even the last wine barrels found buyers. One night a Uettinger delegation with Kleinhans put the people of Helmstadt under pressure. Now and then one would have to join the brotherhood against the monks and priests. The Billingshäuser , the two Altertheims , the Lautenbacher , the Bettinger , the Dertinger, the Kembacher, the Höhefelder etc. followed. Those who resisted, he threatened unequivocally: "We are wrong, we are not, we don’t want anyone what we have and want to drive away from the country! "

As far as is known, however, the Remlingers and mayor resisted as the only ones. So the Tauberbischofsheimer Haufe was supposed to convert the Remlingers by letter. They, who also called themselves the “christian gathering of the nine sta”, committed themselves to “help upright everything that the holy gospel writes down and help to overturn”. The rejection of the Remlingers was certain: they would have gladly heard, if they answered the centurions, how the crowd wanted to establish the holy gospel , since they themselves had for a long time by the grace of Almighty God the truth of our Lord Jesus Christ from the heart coveted; but they would also know that it is not proper to defend the peaceful Word of God by hand. In addition, Mr. Georg Graf zu Wertheim, her master at the time, would have had so much grace and industriously promoted her and provided her with a learned preacher . They would therefore be grateful for this fraternal invitation.

This behavior must also be taken into account when interpreting the words of Count Georg when he said: "If he had had evangelical preachers in all of his spots , he would probably have been overjoyed by this uproar".

From 1625 Uettingen finally belonged to the Freiherrn Wolfskeel v. Reichenberg.

Local customs

Others

  • It is assumed that the nickname Uettingens Kleinparis can be traced back to a saying by the pastor Johann Wolfgang Schmidt. He held the office of pastor from 1835 to 1864 and complained about the "French character" of the Uettinger population. Which, by the way, is not surprising, since a generation earlier the Napoleonic army had passed by on Poststrasse directly near Uettingen during their Russian campaign and spent a few months there (procuring and securing supplies).
  • The Uettingers got the local name Schneesenger due to the legend that the Uettingers secretly burned or scorched their snow. In fact, because of Uettingen's southern hillside location, the snow melts earlier than in the neighboring communities. The snow singers made this place name known throughout Franconia.
  • Uettinger Norbert Riemer is in the Guinness Book of Records with the production of the smallest smokable tobacco pipe .
  • After Aalbachtal the Uettinger music group founded in the 1980s is Aalbachtal Express named.
