Peter le Page Renouf

Peter le Page Renouf (born August 23, 1822 on the island of Guernsey , † October 14, 1897 in London ) was a British Egyptologist .

Renouf studied at Oxford and later became Professor of Oriental Languages ​​and Ancient History at the Catholic University of Dublin . Since the death of Samuel Birch in 1886, Renouf was President of the Society of Biblical Archeology and Director of the Oriental Collections of the British Museum in London. He resigned from running the museum in 1892.

Renouf worked in particular on problems of ancient Egyptian philology and the history of religion .

Peter le Page Renouf died in London on October 14, 1897.
