Böttigheim is part of the municipality of Neubrunn in the Würzburg district and has about 580 inhabitants.

The name comes from Böttcher , the craft of the barrel maker.

history

Even 7000 years ago in the Stone Age there were people , like the discovery of a hand-ax shows.

The first documentary mention of the village comes from the year 1284. Until the regional reform in Bavaria , Böttigheim was an independent municipality. On May 1, 1978 it was incorporated into the Neubrunn market .

Böttigheim is known beyond its borders for its unique flora and fauna . Diptam ( Dictamnus albus ) and rare orchids such as the bee ragwort ( Ophrys apifera ) or the spider ragwort ( Ophrys sphegodes ) grow on its dry grass slopes .

In addition to rare plants, there are also rare animal species, such as the stag beetle . In addition, a pair of eagle owls has been breeding in a quarry since 2002 .

Architectural monuments

  • The Catholic parish church of the Assumption and St. Martin is located in the middle of the village near the former town hall on the church square. The parish church has a dual patronage.
  • The white cross at the southern exit of the village in the direction of Werbach is a granite cross. The body of Christ is made of synthetic resin. The destroyed original cross could not be repaired and was therefore replaced around 1998.
  • The red cross at the northern exit of the village in the direction of Neubrunn is a cross made of red sandstone. His body of Christ is made of wood.
  • The Ödweg chapel was built between four linden trees to the west of the village.
  • The Vierzehnheiligen chapel is located on the old Neubrunner Weg.
  • The Fiederlingskapelle is at the end of the village on the old Neubrunner Weg.
  • The Hutzelkreuz in the forest on the Wurmberg is a cross made of red sandstone. Its age has not yet been determined, but it is estimated to be 400 to 500 years.
