When Medium Maintal which is natural space over-head unit 133 within the main unit group Mainfränkische plates designated (main unit group 13). It is a section of the Main Valley between Wipfeld (south of Schweinfurt) and Karlstadt-Gambach , in which the Main is cut 100–120 m into the limestone of the shell limestone . The middle main valley covers most of the main triangle . Depending on the geological-tectonic requirements and morphological development, both or at least one side of the valley are steep and craggy slopes over the course of the Middle Main Valley, in which the limestone often forms steep walls. The valley floor of the (partly semi-open) Kastental valley, which is typical of limestone landscapes, is created by meandering and is at least 1 km wide. The shape of the valley is in contrast to the well-cleared Schweinfurt basin in the Keuper rock above and the more kerbtal-shaped incision in the rocks of the red sandstone of the Spessart below. Viticulture is practiced almost everywhere on the favorably exposed slopes that are not populated.
