  • The southeast autobahn A3 is a freeway in Austria . It runs from the south autobahn A2 at the Guntramsdorf junction to the Eisenstadt junction with a connection to the Burgenland expressway S 31 and is to be extended to the border crossing at Klingenbach / Sopron to Hungary when it is completed. However, the project is currently under review and has not yet been implemented. Since Hungary decided to build the Sopron bypass by 2021, the transit route moved more into focus at the beginning of 2018.

From the Südost Autobahn, at the Guntramsdorf junction, you can only continue your journey in the direction of Vienna; in the direction of Wiener Neustadt, you cannot continue. In this case, you have to leave the motorway at the Ebreichsdorf-West junction and drive over Badener Straße to Tribuswinkel to the Baden driveway, where you can return to the south motorway. Alternatively, you can also take a loop via the Guntramsdorf rest stop.

    history

The first section of the southeast motorway from Eisenstadt to Großhöflein was opened to traffic on July 17, 1974. Further sections followed in 1977, 1980 and 1986. On October 10, 1991 the section Ebreichsdorf Nord - Pottendorf was released. This meant that the motorway could be driven for just over 24 km from Eisenstadt to Ebreichsdorf Nord.

Originally, the south-east motorway was supposed to cross the now completed Vienna outer ring expressway S 1 and then at the so-called "blocked exit" Simmering to be integrated into the south-east bypass Vienna A 23 in Vienna . Only later, due to protests by environmentalists, did the planning change, as a result of which the A 2 from Vienna to the Guntramsdorf junction was expanded to eight lanes. The kilometers in Burgenland still indicate the original plan. The “kilometer jump ” is at the border of Lower Austria - Burgenland ( Leithabrücke ) from 17.340 km to 25.840 km. This is exactly the distance from the Guntramsdorf node to the Vösendorf node. The Ebreichsdorf Nord section - Guntramsdorf junction was opened to traffic on October 28, 1996.

    Expansion / gap closure

On the Hungarian side, the extended A 3 is to be extended to the M 85 currently under construction . The M 85 will be opened to traffic until shortly before the Austro-Hungarian border in 2020 or 2021.
