Autópálya M85 ( Hungarian for 'motorway M85') is a planned expressway ( Hungarian : Autóút ) in Hungary and part of the European route 65 . It begins in Győr and ends near Sopron on the state border with Austria . There it connects to the southeast motorway (A3). At Csorna it is to cross the M86 motorway .

history

The first 7 km long section near Enese was completed on December 21, 2011. The Kóny - Győr line was opened as a bypass from Enese on June 16, 2015. The new section from Kóny to Csorna -Süd was opened on September 9, 2015. On December 1, 2017, the construction companies were commissioned with the upgraded Csorna-West line to the Sopron / Fertőrákos junction. A total of 57.45 km of new line would have to be built from 2018. The 4.5 km long stretch from Csorna-Süd to Csorna-West would begin at the confluence of the M86 and connect to the M85 at Farád in the southern bypass of Csorna . The line was built from May 19, 2016 to December 15, 2017.

Route: Csorna – Pereszteg

The environmental impact assessment procedure for the Csorna-Pereszteg section was completed in 2016 . The 38 km long route is to be built between 2017 and 2020.

Route: Pereszteg – Sopron

The 27 km long route will start in Pereszteg and end at the Sopron / Fertőrákos junction. Investigations into the first route variants were completed in 2000. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure for the Pereszteg border section was completed on October 16, 2015 . The 27 km long route is to be built between 2017 and 2020.

Sopron limit

The 7.6 km long route will begin at the Sopron / Fertőrákos junction and connect with a northern bypass from Sopron to the south-east A3 motorway near Eisenstadt in Austria . The 3.6 km north-west bypass from Sopron is under construction: from the Sopron-North node M85 / B84 to Agendorfer Landstrasse. Under the Viennese hills a tunnel is to be built in the classic mining method - with a length of 780 m. The expressway is to be built up to km 92 + 950 by 2024, of which the 4-lane, temporary connection up to the border is to be expanded to main road 84 and today's 4-lane border road is to be modernized. In June 2019, the company was commissioned to carry out the work for 49.9 billion forints. Archaeological excavations have been ongoing on the route of the future M85 expressway to the border since spring 2019. From March 2020 , the earthworks required to build the tunnel were completed.
