Course of the road

Autópálya M6 ( Hungarian for 'M6 motorway') is a motorway in Hungary that runs south from Budapest. Its total length is 212 kilometers.
course
It runs in the course of the European route E73 from the M0 near Budapest west parallel to the Danube to the south to Mohács in southern Hungary , and on to Osijek in Croatia with connection to the A5 motorway . The Hungarian name is M6 Duna because it can also be referred to as the Danube motorway due to its route . The M6 crosses the M8 and M9 motorways .
construction
The construction of the M6 motorway from Érdi Tető to Dunaújváros was the first real public-private partnership (PPP) model for a transport infrastructure project in Hungary. Construction began in October 2004 and was completed in September 2006. The opening ceremony took place on June 11, 2006.
On March 31, 2010, after just 20 months of construction, the section between Dunaújváros and Szekszárd was opened. This section is operated as a PPP. Private partners are the Austrian motorway company ASFINAG and Porr , which built the 75 kilometers together with the German company Bilfinger Berger . The cost was 520 million euros. The term of the concession agreement is 30 years.
The M6 section No. 4 (Szekszárd - Bóly / Mohács) and the M60 section Bóly - Pécs (together approx. 80 kilometers) were realized in the form of a public-private partnership . A consortium from Austria, France, Great Britain and Hungary invested more than 266.8 billion forints (1.048 billion euros). The construction costs for this amounted to 600 million euros. The consortium is led by the construction group STRABAG SE , which has a 30% stake and takes on half of the construction contract. According to the Hungarian Ministry of Transport, the French Bouygues Travaux Publics , its subsidiary, the French civil engineering group Colas , the British John Laing Infrastructure Ltd. and the Hungarian company Intertoll Europe . Further partners with shares of over ten percent each are Magyar Aszfalt , Colas Hungária and Közgép .
The consortium built the motorway section as part of a PPP project and will operate it for 30 years. The ground-breaking ceremony took place on November 21, 2007, the completion was on March 31, 2010. These sections were planned by Főmterv Zrt. and clearing . On June 29, 2011, the Hungarian government postponed further construction to the Croatian border in the provisional requirements plan, despite existing building permits.
realization
As the first part, a 54-kilometer stretch with 2 × 2 lanes from Érdi-tető to Dunaújváros was put into operation in 2006. The M6 to Bóly has been in operation since March 31, 2010 .

International link
The M6 motorway is part of the Pan-European Transport Corridor Vc. It will create a high-level connection with the Adriatic from Budapest via Osijek , Sarajevo and Ploče .
- In north-eastern Croatia , the A5 motorway will connect there in the direction of Osijek, which will then cross the A3 further south .
- In Bosnia-Herzegovina , the A1 will extend the corridor in a southerly direction.
- This north-south axis finally ends in Croatian southern Dalmatia , where it will lead as the A10 to the intersection with the A1 and to the port city of Ploče .
This means that there is a continuous motorway connection from Budapest via Sarajevo to Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Sea .
Sections as a European route
The following European roads run along the M6 Autópálya:
