44-es főút ( Hungarian for '44 main street') is a Hungarian main street . The Autópálya M44 motorway is planned and partially under construction parallel to the road .
course
The road begins at 5-ös főút (main road 5) on the outskirts of Kecskemét , runs from there generally to the east, crosses the Tisza behind Lakitelek , goes north past Kunszentmárton , crosses the Körös (screeching), continues through Szarvas , bypasses then the town of Békéscsaba in the north, continues south past Gyula and shortly after this town reaches the Hungarian-Romanian border. In Romania it continues as Drum național 79A .
The total length of the road is 144 kilometers.
