Autópálya M43 ( Hungarian for 'motorway M43') is a motorway in Hungary that runs in a west-east direction and is part of European route 68 . It starts at the motorway junction with the Autópálya M5 west of Szeged and ends at Nagylak on the border with Romania , where it joins the Romanian A1 motorway . The motorway was completed as far as Makó in autumn 2011 . With this opening of the section, the city of Szeged is already greatly relieved.

When it comes to financing, the European Union accuses the Hungarian National Development Agency of the Ministry of Economics for irregularities. The calculation basis for the granting of aid was falsified and EUR 37.5 million was wrongly paid. These are to be reimbursed. Construction work on the last section of the motorway to the Romanian border and the Romanian A1 motorway began at the end of 2012 and should last until September 30, 2014. On July 11, 2015, the motorway was opened to the border with Romania.
