Johannes Kay (born February 10, 1995 ) is a German vaulting artist . With the team of Team Neuss he was European and world champion several times.

Athletic career

Kay was interested in horses from an early age, so he became a member of RSV Neuss-Grimmelhausen and trained in vaulting there. He was accepted into the nationally and internationally operating team Neuss , for which he competes in both singles and doubles with Janika Derks .

The first successes were achieved, initially in the youth team: he was European youth champion at the European youth championships in 2012 and 2013. In 2014 he became team world champion with the Neuss team at the 2014 World Equestrian Games . The following year the team also won the title at the FEI European Championships 2015 in Aachen . Under the nickname Jo Bro he then took part in the vaulting world championships in Le Mans in 2016 and won a silver medal in doubles with Janika Derks. At the 2018 World Championships in Tryon , he won the bronze medal in doubles with her. In the same year he was also German champion in doubles together with Janika Derks .

On November 3, 2017, the then Federal Minister of the Interior, Thomas de Maizière, awarded him the Silver Laurel Leaf for his athletic achievements .

Private life

Johannes Kay is originally from Sörup , his sisters Sarah and Julia are also vaulters. Kay works full-time as a physiotherapist.
