The FEI World Cup Driving (FEI World Cup ™ Driving) is an indoor tournament series that has been held by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) since 2001 .
The Swiss Max E. Ammann came up with the idea for the Drivers' World Cup , who had already come up with the Show Jumping World Cup . The series takes place in the winter half-year and is limited to Europe. The highlight is the World Cup final , which usually takes place in April.
World Cup qualification (summer)
The drivers qualify in qualifying tournaments over the summer. The qualification is always independent of the horses in the team. In 2010 there were a total of sixteen qualifying tournaments. Four of them were held in Germany ( CAIO Aachen , Deutsches Fahrderby , CAI Lähden, CAI Donaueschingen ) and one took place in Austria (CAI Altenfelden). A ranking list is kept for the qualification. For a tournament to count for the ranking list, at least drivers from three nations must have started here.
The top ten drivers in the ranking will qualify for the following World Cup season. However, only three drivers per nation are allowed to take part in the World Cup. That is why the runners-up move up if more than three drivers from a nation are in the top 10 or one driver does not.
World cup
In the winter half of the year the actual World Cup takes place with five to nine tournaments. Six to eight drivers are allowed to participate in each tournament. Five starting places are awarded to drivers who have qualified via the ranking list. The remaining starting places are assigned by wild cards .
Each World Cup tournament consists of a "warm-up" test (obstacle driving against time, one round) and a World Cup test (obstacle driving against time, two rounds). Both exams are compulsory for the participants.
The exams are a combination between bowling and marathon driving . The course usually consists of two marathon obstacles at each end of the track and several pairs of cones in between, as well as a bridge. The obstacles must be driven without errors, in the correct order and as quickly as possible.
For placements in the World Cup tournaments, the drivers receive points with which the top five drivers qualify for the World Cup final. In the final, all drivers start from scratch. If a participant drops out and gives up, they will not receive any points for this test.

World Cup Finals
The World Cup final takes place between January and April, at the end of a World Cup season. Like the World Cup tournaments, the World Cup final consists of a “warm-up” test (obstacle driving against time, one round) and one or two World Cup final tests (obstacle driving against time, two rounds). The exams are identical to the World Cup exams. The winner is determined on the basis of the winner of one or on the average of the results of the two tests.
The World Cup final was held for the first time at the end of the 2005/2006 season, previously the leader of the overall ranking was the World Cup winner at the end of the World Cup season.
