Career

Dreher had contact with horses at an early age, his father ran a riding stable. As a result, he started riding at an early age and took his first jumping test at the age of eight. As a junior he became a two-time state champion of Baden-Württemberg and also took part in the German junior championships in show jumping. He completed his apprenticeship on his parents' farm and subsequently worked for three years as a rider in Alsace . Since then he has been based in Eimeldingen , where he works as the sports director at Gestüt Grenzland.

After changing to the "rider" age group, he mainly competed in regional tournaments up to the advanced level as well as in individual international tournaments. In 2005 he became Baden-Württemberg Champion of Show Jumping.

Dreher had his international breakthrough in 2011: After several riders could not really get together with the stallion Magnus Romeo , Beat Mändli, as the previous rider , convinced the horse owner Paul Bücheler to let Hans-Dieter Dreher ride the horse. Dreher and Magnus Romeo had their first major joint success when they won the CSI3 * Pioltello Grand Prix in Italy in April 2011.

After a seventh place in the German championships, he was nominated for the first time for the CHIO Aachen . Participation in Nations Cups and World Cup competitions followed .

In June 2011 he received the monthly award “ Rolex One to Watch” from the FEI as a rider who made the biggest leap up in the top 250 of the current world rankings (from 386 to 231). In September 2012 he was one of the best 20 show jumpers worldwide for the first time (17th place in the world rankings). Winning the World Cup jumping at the Stuttgart German Masters 2013 meant his greatest success to date.

Until 2016, Hans-Dieter Dreher was part of the German show jumping squad. This year he won the Grand Prix of the Swiss Nations Cup in St. Gallen with Cool and Easy . Due to injuries and a change of rider, only the 16-year-old Embassy II was available to him in the 2017 season of his previous successful horses . In July of that year he achieved another great international success after a good year with his victory in the 5 * Grand Prix of Ascona.

Dreher is married and has two sons.
