The Apostolic Vicariate Melanesia ( Latin : Apostolicus Vicariatus Melanesiae ) was a Roman Catholic Apostolic Vicariate located in Melanesia .

history

The Apostolic Vicariate of Melanesia was on July 19, 1844 by Pope Gregory XVI. Erected with the papal bull ex debito from cessions of territory of the Vicariate Apostolic West Oceania .

On May 10, 1889, the Apostolic Vicariate Melanesia was by Pope Leo XIII. dissolved. The Apostolic Vicariates of New Guinea and New Britain were established from the territory .
