The Roman Catholic Diocese of Auckland ( Latin Dioecesis Aucopolitana , English Diocese of Auckland ) is a in New Zealand located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Auckland .

history

Forerunner of today's Diocese of Auckland is the most Jan. 10, 1830 by Pius VIII. From the Apostolic Prefecture Bourbon out founded Apostolic Prefecture South Sea Islands . The territory of the South Sea Islands prefecture was divided into the Vicariate Apostolic Eastern Oceans and Western Oceania on June 8, 1833 . On August 23, 1842, the Vicariate Western Oceania gave up parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Central Oceania and changed its name to Apostolic Vicariate New Zealand . In 1844, areas of the Vicariate were outsourced as the Apostolic Vicariate of Melanesia and the Apostolic Prefecture of Micronesia . As early as June 20, 1848, the Vicariate Apostolic New Zealand was divided into the Diocese of Auckland and the Diocese of Wellington . The diocese is now a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Wellington .
