Michael Andrew Gielen

Michael Andrew Gielen (born June 2, 1971 in Cambridge , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Auckland .

Life

Michael Andrew Gielen studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at the University of Otago from 1992 to 1997 . He received on 29 November 1997 the Auxiliary Bishop of Hamilton in New Zealand , Max Takuira Matthew Mariu SM , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

From 1997 to 2002 Gielen was parish vicar in the parish of St. Mary's Star of the Sea in Gisborne . From 1999 he was also a member of the Priestly Council of the Diocese of Hamilton in New Zealand and from 2001 President of the Gisborne Ministers Association . In 2002 Michael Andrew Gielen became pastor of the parish of St. Columba in Frankton and the parish of Holy Name in Raglan . In 2005 he continued his studies in the USA , where he obtained a master's degree in Catholic theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2007 .

From 2007 to 2012 Michael Andrew Gielen was pastor of the parish of St. Thomas More in Mount Maunganui and the parish of St. Patrick in Te Puke . From 2009 he was also responsible for vocational pastoral care in the diocese of Hamilton and a member of the priests' council and the college of consultors . In 2014 Gielen graduated from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome with a degree in spirituality . In the same year he became director of formation at the Holy Cross seminary in Auckland .

On January 6, 2020 Pope appointed him Francis to the titular of Abbir Maius and Auxiliary Bishop Auckland. The Bishop of Auckland, Patrick Dunn , ordained him episcopal on March 7th of that year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Hamilton, New Zealand, Stephen Marmion Lowe , and the Bishop Emeritus of Palmerston North , Peter James Cullinane .
