Cambridge is a city in the Waikato regionon the North Island of New Zealand . The city is known as " The Town of Trees ".

geography

Cambridge is located around 20 km southeast of Hamilton on the banks of the Waikato River . The city is divided into two halves by the river that has been cut deep into the country. The southern part of the city is called Leaminton and the northern part is actually the center of the city. Both parts of the city are connected by two bridges over the Waikato River , the western one being better known as the Victoria Bridge .

In the 2013 census, the city had 13,866 inhabitants, which means an increase in population of 6.1% compared to the 2006 census.

The city is twinned with Le Quesnoy in France .

Sports

Lake Karapiro Reservoir , one of the best rowing trails in the world, is nearby and hosted the World Rowing Championships in 1978 and 2010 . Since 2013 the city has one of two indoor cycle tracks in New Zealand, the Avantidrome .

The city is known for its thoroughbred studs, from which many good racing horses and show jumpers come from.
