Katie Cherie Duncan (born Katie Cherie Hoyle in Cambridge on February 1, 1988 ) is a former New Zealand national soccer player who played for FC Zurich Women in Switzerland from 2015 to 2016 .

Career

Katie began her football career with Claudeland Rovers and then moved to Lynn Avon United in the summer of 2007. In 2011, she first played for Glenfield Rovers and after the 2011 World Cup she moved to SC 07 Bad Neuenahr in the women's division . In the summer of 2012 she studied at the University of Waikato and played for their athletics team. In the 2013/14 season she played for Melbourne Victory FC . In January 2014, she announced the move to the English football club Notts County LFC . From 2015 to 2016 she played in the Swiss premier league for FC Zurich women , where she was twice champion and cup winner. In the 2015/16 season she played in two games in the round of 32 of the UEFA Women's Champions League against Lillestrøm SK Kvinner . After the first leg in Lillestrøm was lost 1-0, the Zurich women were able to achieve a 1-0 after 90 minutes in the second leg, but then had to accept the equalizer in extra time and were eliminated. In May 2016, she ended her engagement in Zurich to prepare for the Olympic Games with the national team.

International

Katie represented her home country at the 2008 U-20 Women's World Cup in Chile .

She made her senior international debut in the 3-0 defeat against the Chinese women's national soccer team on November 14, 2006. She presented the New Zealand women's national soccer team at the 2007 Women's World Cup in China . and was in the 2008 New Zealand roster for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing . Her only international goal to date was scored on October 1, 2010 in a 10-0 win over the Cook Islands in the Oceanic Women Nations Cup. She was in the squad for the 2011 Women's World Cup and was used in the first game against Japan.

On March 5, 2015, she made her 100th international match in a 0-0 draw against Spain as the third New Zealander .

She was also part of the squad for the 2015 World Cup and was used in the three games after which her team was eliminated.

In July 2016, she was added to the squad for the 2016 Olympic Games. It was used in the three group games after which New Zealand was eliminated. After the games, she ended her career.

At the beginning of 2019, the new national coach Tom Sermanni persuaded her to make a comeback. It was then used in the Cup of Nations and the official game against Norway .

On April 29, she was nominated for the World Cup in France .

With 124 games, she has played the fifth most games for New Zealand (as of May 23, 2019).

Duncan is married to the New Zealand soccer player Priscilla Duncan . On January 31, 2015, she took the last name of her life partner Priscilla Duncan.
