UEFA Women's Champions League 2014/15
Città del Tricolore - venue of the final

The 2015/16 UEFA Women's Champions League was the fifteenth edition of the European championship competition for women's football clubs and the seventh under this name. 56 teams from 46 countries competed for the title. The competition began with the first games of the qualifying round on August 11, 2015 and ended with the final on May 26, 2016 at the Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore in Reggio nell'Emilia . Defending champion 1. FFC Frankfurt , who qualified third in the 2014/15 Bundesliga season only by winning the title last year, was eliminated in the semi-finals against VfL Wolfsburg.

Attendees

46 national champions as well as the runners-up from the eight strongest national associations and the defending champion 1. FFC Frankfurt took part in the 2015/16 UEFA Women's Champions League. The UEFA five-year rating was used to determine the eight strongest national associations . The defending champion, the 15 national champions of the strongest national associations and the eight runner-ups received a bye and only intervened in the sixteenth-finals in the competition. The remaining national champions first had to take part in a qualifying round.

mode

First, the clubs from the 32 worst-placed associations play eight participants in a qualifying round for the main round, in which 24 other clubs are added. The games of the main round up to and including the semi-finals are played in the first and second legs. The team that scores more goals in both games will advance to the next round. If both teams score the same number of goals, the number of away goals decides. If the number of away goals is the same, the second leg is extended. If both teams score the same number of goals in extra time, the away team wins due to the higher number of away goals scored. If no goals are scored, the match will be decided on penalties . The final will be decided in one game. In the event of a tie, extra time follows and then a penalty shoot-out if necessary.

qualification

The eight mini-tournaments were held from August 11th to 16th, 2015. For this purpose, the teams involved were divided into eight groups of four teams in a lottery. Each group held its mini-tournament in a different country. The group winners qualified for the sixteenth-finals, in which the seeded teams and the runner-up intervened in the competition.

The group draw for the qualification took place on June 25, 2015 in Nyon . For this purpose, the teams were divided into 4 pots according to their club coefficient, one team plays in a group from each pot.
