Babett "Babs" Peter (born May 12, 1988 in Oschatz , Leipzig district , GDR ) is a German soccer player . The defender plays for Real Madrid and played for the German national team from 2006 to 2019 .
Life
Club soccer
Babett Peter started playing soccer in elementary school. When she was nine, her parents registered her with the FSV Oschatz . After moving to 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig , she became a junior national player. During the winter break of the 2005/06 season she moved to 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam . On September 12, 2007 she was awarded the Fritz Walter Gold Medal. On October 7, 2007, she scored her first Bundesliga goal with a penalty at SG Essen-Schönebeck . With Turbine she won the German championship five times, once the DFB Cup and three times the DFB Indoor Cup . Her greatest success at Turbine was winning the Champions League in 2010. For the 2012/13 season, she moved to 1. FFC Frankfurt . Peter has been under contract with VfL Wolfsburg since the 2014/15 season . On September 17th, 2019 it was announced that Peter had signed a contract with CD Tacón until 2021 . In July 2020, the CD Tacón club was taken over by Real Madrid .
National team
In 2005 , Peter failed with the U-19 selection in the semi-finals of the European Championship to Russia. She played her first international match for the German national team on March 9, 2006 against Finland . At the beginning of her career with the national team, she was nicknamed the Hulk . With the national team, she was world champion in 2007 , but was not used during the tournament. A year later she won the bronze medal at the Olympics . In 2009 she became European champion with the national team. She scored her first international goal on March 1, 2010 at the Algarve Cup against the PR China. In addition, she took over the captain's armband for the first time after the replacement of Birgit Prinz . Peter was part of the team for the 2011 World Cup in Germany. On November 19, 2011, she scored three goals in an international match for the first time in Wiesbaden in a 17-0 record win in the European Championship qualifier against the selection of Kazakhstan .
Peter took part in the first two courses for the EM 2013 and also played the first friendly against Scotland. Two days later, however, she had to cancel her participation in the European Championship due to an injury to her left foot. On May 24, 2015 she was appointed to the final squad for the 2015 World Cup in Canada by national coach Silvia Neid . In 2016, she was accepted into the national team for the Olympic soccer tournament in Brazil and won the gold medal with the national team in the final against Sweden as an occasional substitute player. After the resignation of the regular defenders Saskia Bartusiak and Annike Krahn after the Olympic final, she formed the central defense in the first two games under the new national coach Steffi Jones together with Josephine Henning and came on September 20, 2016 against Hungary in the last qualifying game for the 2017 European Championship their 100th international match . She played her last international match against Austria on October 6, 2018.
On April 26, 2019, Peter ended her national team career.

Private
Peter attended the sports high school in Leipzig from July 2003 to December 2005 , before she attended the Potsdam sports high school from January 2006 to June 2007, where she graduated from high school. From the beginning of October 2007, she graduated as a sports soldier of the Armed Forces , the General basic training in the barracks Clausewitz of Nienburg / Weser .
Since she was five, Peter has suffered from facial paralysis , a paralyzing disease of the nerves responsible for the facial muscles. At the age of 15, she underwent an operation that improved the situation significantly.
She is in a relationship with former professional soccer player Ella Masar . The couple announced on Instagram at the end of February 2020 that they were expecting offspring.
