Fritz Walter Medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fritz Walter Medal has been awarded by the German Football Association in gold, silver and bronze to the young player of the year since 2005 , since 2009 in cooperation with the Fritz Walter Foundation . This award recognizes special achievements in each of the three age groups U17, U18 and U19. The naming is a reminder of the honorary captain of the German national team Fritz Walter , who died in 2002 and , as DFB President Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder said on the occasion of the award ceremony in 2005, has been a role model, both athletically and personally, since winning the 1954 World Cup .

The decision on the respective award winners is made by a jury consisting of representatives from the DFB Presidium, the DFB Youth Committee and the DFB coaching staff. Responsible for the formation of a revered player club will receive 20,000 euros for gold, 15,000 euros for silver and 10,000 euros for bronze.

While the male talents in the age groups U19, U18 and U17 are awarded gold, silver and bronze three players each, there is only one female prize winner for each age group, the medal only indicates the respective age group.
