Patrick Rakovsky (born June 2, 1993 in Olpe ) is a German football goalkeeper . He has been under contract with FC Lahti since January 2019 .

Career

Rakovsky began playing football in Drolshagen in the Sauerland , where he joined SC Bleche-Germinghausen. He then played for FC Schreibershof until 1999. After his family moved to the Czech Republic in 1999 , Rakovsky was registered with FK Dukla Prague by his Czech father . In 2000 he moved to city rivals Sparta Prague for three years . Then Rakovsky moved to Slavia Prague and returned to Sparta in 2004 as his schooling was a priority. He was Czech champion with Sparta's U-15. Shortly afterwards he moved back to Germany and went to the youth boarding school of FC Schalke 04 . With his new club he won the Westphalia Cup. With the U-19 from Schalke 04, he was runner-up in the Bundesliga West in 2011 and again winner of the Westphalia Cup . In the 2010/11 season Rakovsky played 17 games for the Schalke youth team.

In July 2011 he received his first professional contract with 1. FC Nürnberg . He left the regular second goalkeeper Alexander Stephan behind in the pre-season . When Nürnberg's regular goalkeeper Raphael Schäfer injured his right tibia and fibula at the beginning of the season, Rakovsky played his first Bundesliga appearance on August 20, 2011 in the away game at Borussia Dortmund . When his team went 0-2, he was the third-youngest football goalkeeper in Bundesliga history; only Frank Kirn from Düsseldorf and Eike Immel from Dortmund were younger at their debut games. After two games, he injured his finger during training, which necessitated an operation and put him out of action for several weeks. He was also used again on November 6, 2011 in the A-youth of the club. In the 2012/13 season he made four Bundesliga appearances from the eighth to the eleventh round.

Nürnberg coach Dieter Hecking described Rakovsky as a goalkeeper of the modern generation: "He's a playing goalkeeper who is strong on the line and can handle the ball." In 2012 he was awarded the Fritz Walter Bronze Medal by the DFB as one of the best young player in his age group (U-19).

Rakovsky has German, but not Czech citizenship. In 2008 he played for the German U-15 national team for the first time in a friendly against Poland. Appointments to other DFB youth teams followed.

His six-year career at 1. FC Nürnberg ended at the end of the 2016/17 season . He has been under contract with the Belgian club Lierse SK since October 2017 . After his club had to file for bankruptcy, Rakovsky remained without a club until the end of 2018. Since January 2019 he has been playing in the Finnish Veikkausliiga at FC Lahti .
