Yannick Gerhardt (born March 13, 1994 in Würselen ) is a German soccer player . The midfielder is under contract with Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg .

Career

After playing as a dangerous midfielder at 1. FC Köln in his youth, Gerhardt was accepted into the professional squad by new coach Peter Stöger for the 2013/14 season . On the first day of the season Gerhardt made his debut in the professional team in the away game against Dynamo Dresden (1: 1) in the starting line-up. He scored his first goal as a professional footballer on September 1, 2013 in a 4-1 win against Erzgebirge Aue in the second minute of the game. His contract with 1. FC Köln ran until June 30, 2018.

For the 2016/17 season , Gerhardt moved to VfL Wolfsburg . He made his Bundesliga debut for Wolves on August 27, 2016 in a 2-0 away win against FC Augsburg . Gerhardt scored his first Bundesliga goal for VfL on November 18, 2017 (12th matchday 17/18 ) with a 1-0 lead in a 3-1 home win against SC Freiburg .

National team

In 2012 Gerhardt made his debut in the German U-18 national team . He was then used in all junior selections. On November 15, 2016, Gerhardt made his only appearance in the German senior team in the game against Italy in Milan . At the U-21 European Championship 2017 in Poland, Gerhardt completed every game over the full distance and finally won the title with Germany.

In 2013 Yannick Gerhardt received the Fritz Walter Medal in the U-19 age group in silver. In 2014 he and Inka Grings were voted “Cologne's Sportsman of the Year”. On May 22, 2017 he was elected Sportsman of the Year in the Düren district.

Others

Gerhardt attended the Stiftisches Gymnasium in Düren , where he graduated from high school in the summer of 2013. He lives in Kreuzau .

His younger sister Anna Gerhardt (* 1998) plays for 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in the women's Bundesliga and is a former junior national player .
