Felix Klaus (born September 13, 1992 in Osnabrück ) is a German soccer player who is under contract with Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg .

Career

The son of the former Bundesliga player Fred Klaus began playing football at the age of five at the Westphalian SV Bösensell when his father was under contract with Preußen Münster . With the return of the family to the Franconian homeland after the end of his father's career, Felix played up to the D-Jugend at SC Weismain or its successor club SCW Obermain and in the youth development association JFG Kunstadt-Obermain . After a year in between at 1. FC Lichtenfels , he was accepted into the C-youth of SpVgg Greuther Fürth .

In 2009, the young player from Fürth played his first games in the U-19 Bundesliga South / Southwest and in the reserve team. Klaus made his debut for the first team in the following season on November 6, 2010 in the away game against MSV Duisburg , when he came into play for Kim Falkenberg in the 88th minute . He scored his first Bundesliga goal on January 23, 2011 (19th matchday) in the game against 1. FC Union Berlin with the goal to win 1-0. In the 76th minute, 16 minutes after his substitution for Leonhard Haas , he scored with a right-footed shot. From matchday 20, the then 18-year-old was on the starting line-up as the right winger in all remaining games of the season. After the season he was voted “Player of the Year” in a fan vote. On the 5th matchday of the 2011/12 season in the game against FC Ingolstadt 04 he scored the goal to make it 3-0 only 16 seconds after being substituted on. With the goal to 1-0 in the 67th minute of the 1-0 win on August 31, 2012 (2nd matchday) in the away game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 , he marked his first goal and also the first goal for the club in the Bundesliga.

After the direct relegation of Fürth to the 2nd Bundesliga, Klaus moved to SC Freiburg for the 2013/14 season . After missing the start of the season due to a torn hamstring, he first gained match practice in the second team. On October 3, 2014, he made his competitive debut for the Breisgauer in the second group game of the Europa League in the 2-0 defeat against Sevilla FC . Three days later he also made his debut in the Bundesliga.

After SC Freiburg was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga, Klaus moved to Hannover 96 for the 2015/16 season . There he was relegated for the third time with his third first division club.

After three seasons for Hanover, Klaus signed a contract with league rivals VfL Wolfsburg in June 2018 .

National team

For the DFB selection, he played his first of six international matches for the U-17 national team on October 16, 2008 in Fulda in the 1: 2 defeat against the Czech selection when he came on for Kevin Volland in the 70th minute . The next day he scored his first of two international goals in Hanau with the goal to make it 5-0 in the 77th minute against the Russian U17s.

For the U18 national team he played his first of six games on April 12, 2010 in al-Ain as part of an international tournament in a 1-0 victory over the Egyptian national team under 19. For the U-19 selection team , he first came on November 17, 2010 in Dresden in a 1-1 draw against the Czech selection.

The national coach of the German U21s, Horst Hrubesch , nominated Klaus for the first time for two European Championship qualifiers in September 2014. He made his debut in the U21 national team on September 9, 2014 in the 8-0 win in Magdeburg against the Romanian U21s when he came on in the 67th minute for Yunus Malli .
