Adalbert Boros

Adalbert Boros (born September 20, 1908 in Erdőhegy , Arad County , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary ; † June 6, 2003 in Timișoara , Romania ) was titular archbishop of Ressiana , provost of the Timișoara diocese and rector of the Timișoara seminary .

education

Adalbert Boros was born in the Banat in 1908. After he had completed his high school education in the school order of the Piarists in Timișoara from 1918 to 1926 , he studied philosophy and theology at the Gregoriana in Rome as an alumnus of the theological college Germanicum et Hungaricum de Urbe from 1926 to 1934 .

Priestly career

He was ordained a priest on October 30, 1932 . In 1934 he received his doctorate in philosophy and theology . When he returned to Romania, Adalbert Boros became a professor of dogmatics and polemics at the seminary in Timișoara in 1934 , where he was rector from 1947 to 1949.

Secret episcopal ordination

In October 1948 the seminary was closed by decree of the communist regime . The students were forbidden from completing their studies in seminar under threat of punishment. In this situation, Adalbert Boros made sure that the students were housed with their home pastors and that they were secretly prepared for the exams and ordination with teaching letters and books .

Adalbert Boros was born on December 12, 1948 by Gerald O'Hara , Bishop of Savannah and rain of the Apostolic Nunciature , in the chapel of the nunciature in Bucharest , the episcopal ordination donated.

Arrest and jail

After 1947 the Roman Catholic Church in Romania lost its legal basis. Clergymen were arrested, organizations banned and property expropriated. From September 10 to 17, 1951, the Stalinist show trial of the so-called “Vatican spies” took place in Bucharest . Adalbert Boros was arrested on March 10, 1951 and sentenced to life imprisonment before a military tribunal in Bucharest . Of these he served 13 years, two and a half years in solitary confinement . Bishop Augustin Pacha and other members of the cathedral chapter were sentenced with him . After his release he worked as a chaplain (assistant priest) in Elisabethstadt .

Last years and death

After the revolution of 1989 he was too old to be a bishop. On March 14, 1990, Pope John Paul II appointed him archbishop pro hac vice of the titular diocese of Ressiana. Archbishop Adalbert Boros took part in the episcopal ordination of Sebastian Kräuter in Timișoara Cathedral on April 28, 1990 . On August 14, 1990 he was elected provost of the diocese by the newly formed Timișoara cathedral chapter .

Adalbert Boros died on June 6, 2003 at the age of 95 in Timișoara and was buried in the cathedral crypt there.
