Sebastian Kräuter (born December 22, 1922 in Nițchidorf (German: Nitzkydorf ), Kingdom of Romania ; † January 29, 2008 in Timișoara , Romania ) was bishop of the Timișoara diocese in Romania between 1990 and 1999.

Sebastian Kräuter was born as the son of the businessman Balthasar Kräuter and his wife Katharina Kräuter, nee. Nasz, born.

His brother, Dr. theol. Franz Herbs was archivist for the Timișoara diocese for many years. The ancestors of Sebastian Kräuter's father came from the Palatinate Hauenstein and immigrated to the Banat in the 18th century.

Life

Sebastian Kräuter attended primary school in Nițchidorf. This was followed by attending middle school (boys' college of the Banatia ) and studying philosophy and theology at the seminary in Timișoara. He was ordained a priest on June 2, 1946 in Timișoara Cathedral by Bishop Augustin Pacha . Between 1946 and 1964 he was chaplain of the parish of Giarmata , then pastor of this parish until 1983.

As a Prosynodalis examiner he worked for many years for the Ordinariate, Pope John Paul II appointed him from 1983 to 1990 as Ordinarius "Substitutus ad Nutum Sancti Sedis". After 40 years of vacancy , he was appointed bishop - "Episcopus Timisoarensis" - of the Timișoara diocese by Pope John Paul II in 1990. The episcopal ordination on April 28, 1990 as the 92nd successor of Saint Gérard in the diocese of Cenad-Timișoara was donated by Angelo Cardinal Sodano and the co-consecrators Archbishops Adalbert Boros , Timișoara, and Lajos Bálint , Alba Iulia . It was the sixth episcopal ordination in the almost millennial history of the Timișoara diocese in the Banat.

Sebastian Kräuter was co-editor and author of the foreword to the biography published in 1995 about his predecessor Augustin Pacha “Memories of Bishop Pacha. A piece of Banat local history ”. This was created through the collection of data and manuscripts by his brother Franz Kräuter.

After his age-related resignation in 1999, Sebastian Kräuter personally handed over the staff to his successor Martin Roos . He was buried on February 1, 2008 in the crypt of the Cathedral of Timișoara .
