Martin Roos

Martin Roos (born October 17, 1942 in Satchinez , Kingdom of Romania ) is a Romanian-German clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Timișoara .

Martin Roos completed elementary school in his place of birth and attended secondary school in Alba-Iulia (Karlsburg) between 1957 and 1961 . He also began his theological studies in Alba-Iulia, but continued it from 1962 to 1969 in Germany at the Philosophical-Theological University of Königstein . He was ordained a priest on July 3, 1971 by Karl Joseph Leiprecht , Bishop of Rottenburg . He worked in pastoral care in Stuttgart-Obertürkheim (1971–1973), in Stimpfach (1973–1990). Then he worked for the priestly ministry of St. Gerhard .

On June 24, 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of the Timișoara diocese, founded in 1930 . He was consecrated as a bishop by the Apostolic Nuncio in Romania, Archbishop Jean-Claude Périsset , on August 28, 1999. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Szeged-Csanád , Endre Gyulay , and Johannes Kreidler , auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. Bishop Sebastian Kräuter personally presented the pastoral staff to his successor.

The Faculty of Theology Fulda gave him 4 February 2011 for his services to the study of church history of Banat as well as to the academic and educational exchanges, particularly in the training of priests, between the dioceses Timişoara and Fulda the honorary doctorate . The Apostolic Nuncio in Germany, Archbishop Jean-Claude Périsset, and Bishop Heinz Josef Algermissen as well as Rector Christoph Gregor Müller and Regens Cornelius Roth took part in the Eucharistic celebration in the chapel of the Episcopal Seminary .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on May 16, 2018.
