Positions
Protection of human life
Algermissen speaks out against abortion , active euthanasia and assisted suicide , since "God's face is reflected in human existence".
Lack of belief in the resurrection as a security risk
In January 2016, Algermissen criticized believers in Germany for being denigrated in the name of freedom of the press and freedom of expression. At the Easter fair in 2016, Algermissen described people without belief in the resurrection as a "great security risk", which earned him sharp criticism.
Rejection of gender mainstreaming
He condemned gender mainstreaming as "equalizing the gender differences", which contradicts the Catholic view of marriage and family.
Marriage only as a connection between man and woman
On October 27, 2016, the Diocese of Algermissen announced that the bishop hoped that many of the faithful would support Hedwig von Beverfoerde's European citizens' initiative , so that a uniform definition of marriage and family could be achieved in Europe that would serve the good of the people.
Parental home as an original place for sex education
Because he wants to limit sex education to the parents' home as the original place of sex education, Bishop Algermissen called in 2007 to boycott a musical organized by the Federal Center for Health Education (BzgA).
Episcopal coat of arms
The coat of arms of the auxiliary bishop is split and shows in front in silver / white a green vine with blue grapes, in back in red / gold a bar cross, the coat of arms of the Archdiocese of Paderborn.
Behind the shield is the bishop's cross, above it the green galero (bishop's hat ) with the six green tassels (fiocchi) hanging down.
His episcopal motto Thesaurus in vasis fictilibus ("Treasure in clay (fragile) vessels") comes from the 2nd letter of Paul to the Corinthians ( 2 Cor 4,7 EU ).
The coat of arms of the Bishop of Fulda, divided into four, shows in fields 1 and 4 in silver / white a black bar cross, the coat of arms of the diocese of Fulda ( Fürstabtei Fulda ), in field 2 in red a golden grape, in field 3 in gold a green peacock frond with a golden staff, symbol of Saint Liborius, the diocese patron of Paderborn.
