Carl Joseph Leiprecht (born September 11, 1903 in Hauerz ; † October 29, 1981 in Ravensburg ) was the eighth bishop of the Rottenburg diocese .

biography

After graduating from high school in Ehingen in 1923 , Carl Joseph Leiprecht studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the University of Tübingen from 1923 to 1927 . On March 24, 1928, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Joannes Baptista Sproll in Rottenburg Cathedral . From 1928 to 1932 he was vicar in Schwäbisch Gmünd am Heilig-Kreuz-Münster and in Stuttgart in Sankt Georg, from 1932 repetition .

In 1936 he became director of the Episcopal Gymnasiumkonvikt in Ehingen and in 1942 he moved to Rottweil as pastor . In 1947 he was appointed cathedral capitular in Rottenburg.

Pope Pius XII appointed him on October 7, 1948 titular bishop of Scyrus and auxiliary bishop in Rottenburg. He was ordained bishop on November 30, 1948, by the Archbishop of Freiburg , Wendelin Rauch, in the Rottenburg Cathedral; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Wilhelm Burger from Freiburg and Franz Joseph Fischer from Rottenburg.

On July 21, 1949 he was elected the eighth Bishop of Rottenburg. The inauguration followed on September 8 of the same year.

At the Second Vatican Council it emerged that Bishop Leiprecht was seated neighbor of Bishop Manuel Tato of Santiago del Estero in the council hall . This led to priests from the Rottenburg diocese being sent to the Santiago del Estero diocese as Fidei Donum priests .

On June 4, 1974, Pope Paul VI. his resignation.

He found his final resting place in the bishop's crypt in the Sülchen cemetery church .

honors and awards

Carl Josef Leiprecht was an honorary citizen of the cities of Leutkirch im Allgäu and Rottenburg am Neckar . Leiprecht is the namesake of the Free Catholic Elementary and Werkrealschule in Rottenburg am Neckar, as well as the Bischof-Leiprecht-Center of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart in Stuttgart.
