Maximilian Arnold (born May 27, 1994 in Riesa ) is a German football player . He is under contract with Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg .

Career

Arnold started playing soccer at BSV Strehla in 2000 and switched to SC Riesa in 2003 and to the youth department of Dynamo Dresden in 2006 . When it came to admission to the Dynamo Dresden sports school in 2006, he was not allowed to take the admission test. But a trainer from Gröditz and a person in charge from Dresden stood up for him and he was allowed to go to Dresden at the age of twelve .

He moved to VfL Wolfsburg in 2009. Here he was initially used in the U-17 Bundesliga and U-19 Bundesliga . With the U-19 of VfL Wolfsburg, he became German A youth champion in 2011. In the 2011/12 season Felix Magath brought him to the VfL professionals. On November 26, 2011, he played his first Bundesliga game at the age of 17 years, 5 months and 30 days. In the game of the 14th matchday at FC Augsburg , he came on for Makoto Hasebe in the 86th minute . He is the youngest debutant in the Bundesliga history of VfL Wolfsburg. On April 13, 2013 Arnold scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 2-2 draw against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . This makes him the youngest goalscorer in the club's history. In the following game against Werder Bremen , he scored his second Bundesliga goal. In addition, he was German A youth champion for the second time since 2011.

Before the 2013/14 season , Arnold extended his contract to June 30, 2017. On the first day of the season, Arnold slipped into the starting line-up for the sick Ivan Perišić , but was sent off with a red card in the 32nd minute. Arnold is also the youngest red sinner in the club's history. At the U-21 European Championship 2017 in Poland, Arnold played in every game and led Germany to victory as captain.
