John Anthony Brooks (born January 28, 1993 in Berlin ) is a German - American football player . The defender plays for Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg .

Club career

After holding positions in Blau Weiss Berlin , Lichtenrader BC and Hertha Zehlendorf , Brooks moved to Hertha BSC's youth department in 2007 . He played there until the coach of Hertha's U-23 Karsten Heine brought him into his team during the winter break of the 2010/11 regional league season . There he became a regular player and after his debut in the game at TSV Havelse played 15 more times. In May 2011 Brooks signed a professional contract with Hertha BSC. He was only used in the second team in the 2011/12 season. He caught the attention of the scouts of FC Bayern Munich , but turned down their offer and stayed in Berlin. He made his debut for the first team on August 3, 2012 on the first match day of the 2012/13 season in the home game against SC Paderborn 07 in the 2nd Bundesliga . On the last match day of the first half of the 2014/15 season on December 21, 2014 in the game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , he scored an own goal within three minutes and caused a penalty kick; Hertha BSC lost the game with 0: 5.

His contract with Hertha BSC ran until 2019.

For the 2017/18 season Brooks switched to league rivals VfL Wolfsburg . On May 31, 2017, he signed a contract that runs until 2022.

National team career

Brooks played for the United States U-20s and played a game for the German U-20 national team . Coach Jurgen Klinsmann he was in August 2013 for a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina for the first time in the squad of American senior team appointed. In his fifth international match for the United States, he scored the winning goal at the 2014 World Cup to make it 2-1 in the first group game against Ghana .
